BELIEFS

As a church all of our beliefs are based solely on the Bible. Here you can find a summary of our main teachings. For a more complete and detailed description of our doctrines, you may read the Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689

THE SCRIPTURES

The Old and New Testament Scriptures (the Bible) were given by the inspiration of God and are the only sufficient, secure, and authoritative standard of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience.

GOD

There is only one God, the Creator, Sustainer, and Ruler of all things, having all kinds of perfection in himself and of himself, being infinite; and to Him every creature owes the highest level of love, reverence, and obedience.

THE TRINITY

God reveals himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each with different personal attributes, but without division in nature, essence, or being. There is only one God in three persons.

PROVIDENCE

God, from eternity, decrees and allows all things to take place, and perpetually sustains, directs, and governs all creatures and all events without being in any way the author or approver of sin, and without destroying the responsibility of human beings.

ELECTION

Election is God’s eternal selection of some people for eternal life (salvation) —not because of some merit anticipated in them, but because of his mere mercy in Christ— and as a consequence of this these people chosen by grace are called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.

THE FALL OF MAN

God originally created man (Adam and Eve) in his own image and free from sin; but, through the temptation of Satan, man transgressed the commandment of God and fell from his original holiness and justice; whereby all their descendants inherit the corrupt and completely opposite nature with respect to God and his law, are under condemnation, and as soon as they are able to act morally, they become true transgressors.

THE MEDIATOR

Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is the divinely appointed mediator between God and man. Having taken into himself human nature, but without sin, He fulfilled the law perfectly, suffered and died on the cross for the salvation of sinners. He was buried, rose again the third day, and ascended to his Father, on whose right hand he lives forever to make intercession for his people. He is the only Mediator, Prophet, Priest, King of his Church and Sovereign of the universe.

REGENERATION

Regeneration —or new birth— is a change of heart, a work of the Holy Spirit —carried out by the sovereign initiative of God— who gives life to those who are dead in their transgressions and sins, enlightening their minds spiritually for salvation, in order to understand the Word of God, and renewing their whole nature so that they love and practice holiness. Regeneration is a work of God’s free and special grace alone.

REPENTANCE

Repentance is a change of mind and direction, in which the Holy Spirit makes a person aware of the multiform evilness of his sin, so that he humbles himself with godly sadness, detests, and hates sin, in order to walk before God in such a way that it pleases him in all things. People repent of their sins by the grace of God.

FAITH

Saving faith is the belief and trust in Christ, as the only Savior and the only way for the forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, who works in the heart of the sinner so that he understands the gospel and turns to God.

JUSTIFICATION

Justification is the merciful and total absolution from all sin, given by God to sinners who believe in Christ through the sacrifice that Christ made on the cross. It is not given for something deserved or made by men, but because of the perfect obedience of Christ. Men receive justification and trust Jesus and his righteousness by faith. We are declared righteous before God only by faith in Christ and not by works or sacraments.

SANCTIFICATION

Those who have been regenerated and justified are also sanctified through the Word and Spirit of God that lives in them. This sanctification is progressive through the perfecting work carried out by God, through the Holy Spirit. All true believers long for holiness, seeking a life of obedience ready to all the commandments of Christ.

THE PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS

Those that God has accepted in Jesus, and sanctified by his Spirit, will never totally fall, nor will they reject in the end, his state of grace, but they will certainly persevere and be kept by God until the end; and although they may fall into sin through negligence and temptation, grieving the Spirit, preventing his graces and consolations, bringing reproach to the Church and temporary judgments on themselves, they will still be renewed again to repent, by the grace of God, who will undoubtedly preserve them until the end. Salvation is not lost.

THE CHURCH

The Lord Jesus is the Head of the Church, which is composed of all his true disciples, and in him resides all power for its government. According to his command, Christians are to meet in local churches; and to each of these churches He has given the necessary authority to administer the order, discipline, and worship that He has appointed. Local churches must have pastors (bishops or elders) and deacons, who are in charge of spiritual leadership and the management of practical needs respectively.

BAPTISM

Baptism is an ordinance of the Lord Jesus, mandatory for every believer, in which he is immersed in water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, as a symbol of his spiritual union with Christ in his death and resurrection, the forgiveness of sins and his surrender to God, to live and walk in a new life.

THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Lord’s Supper is an ordinance of Jesus Christ to be administered with bread and wine, which is to be celebrated by his local churches until the end of the world. It is in no sense a sacrifice nor do the elements become anything different, rather it was an ordained symbol to remember the death of Jesus Christ until He returns. The Lord’s Supper strengthens the faith of Christians, serving as a bond, a commitment, and a renewal of their communion with Christ, and of their communion with the Church.

THE RESURRECTION

Men’s bodies turn to dust after death, but their spirits immediately return to God; believers rest with Him; unbelievers will be kept in darkness for judgment. On the final day, the bodies of all the dead, both believers and unbelievers, will be resurrected.

THE FINAL JUDGEMENT

God has appointed a final judgment in which He will judge the world through Jesus Christ, when He will give each person according to their works: unrepentant unbelievers will enter into the eternal punishment of hell and believers, into eternal life (paradise).
